The Farm at Emerald Valley is transforming a storied Scenery Hill property—once a Revolutionary-era outpost and later a Whiskey Rebellion meeting ground—into a modern farm-to-table venue that pairs culinary craft with deep regional history. Phase 1 restores the 1864 bank barn for weddings and events, converts a former chicken coop into The Hen House bar with a Victorian wrap-around porch, and outfits an honor-system farm store stocked with house-made cheeses and neighboring farms’ produce. Guests already visit for pop-up dinners featuring award-winning Emerald Valley Artisans cheese, Red Pump Spirits bourbon, and seasonal menus built entirely from the surrounding fields.
Funds raised will finish critically needed infrastructure: ADA-compliant restrooms tucked beneath the barn’s hand-hewn beams and a full commercial kitchen that lets chefs execute high-volume service without food-truck constraints. These upgrades unlock year-round bookings, grow agritourism revenue, and seed later phases that add overnight suites and a tavern in the lower barn. By anchoring Washington County’s local-food network with immersive hospitality, the family-owned venture aims to preserve heritage buildings, expand market access for small producers, and offer city dwellers an authentic countryside escape just 45 minutes from Pittsburgh.
Company Info
The Farm at Emerald Valley is a historic Pennsylvania homestead transformed into a farm-to-table event venue with distillery, farm store, and plans for on-site lodging.
The Farm at Emerald Valley is a 46-acre heritage property in Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania that has been stewarded by the same family for generations. Anchored by an 1864 bank barn and a former chicken coop repurposed as The Hen House tasting room, the site blends Revolutionary-era history—Colonel Thomas Crooks is buried on the grounds—with a contemporary farm-to-table ethos rooted in the founders’ award-winning Jersey and Holstein dairy program. Carefully restored stone walls, timber beams, and Victorian porches create an inviting setting for private gatherings while preserving the character of the original homestead.
Today the farm operates as a multifaceted culinary venue: Red Pump Spirits distills small-batch whiskey and seasonal liqueurs; Old Man Web’s Bank Barn hosts weddings, workshops, and chef-driven dinners that showcase estate produce, pasture-raised meats, and handcrafted cheeses; and The Country Coop honor-system store offers visitors fresh eggs, jams, and pantry staples. Future phases call for guest suites, a lower-level tavern with a commercial kitchen, and an outdoor gazebo stage, extending the farm’s role as a regional hub for agritourism, local food education, and community events.
